INSIDE THE SHARPTIER LAB

How We Test and Rank Gadgets

Every score on SharpTier starts with a retail purchase and ends with three months of follow-up testing. Here is exactly what happens in between.

1. We buy every product at retail

No press samples, no hand-picked review units. We order from the same listings you do, so we see the same quality control, packaging, and shipping issues you would.

2. Two weeks of daily, real-world use

Mosquito lamps run all night in real bedrooms and on real patios. Monoculars ride along on hikes and birding trips. Knee braces get worn through actual training plans. Lab numbers only count when day-to-day use backs them up.

3. A 20-point scoring rubric

Every product is scored against the same rubric so categories stay comparable:

  • Build quality and materials
  • Measured, real-world performance
  • Battery life and charging
  • Safety and certifications
  • Warranty and after-sales support

4. Re-tested after 90 days

Top scorers go back on the bench after three months. If a product degrades, breaks, or loses support, its score drops or it leaves the rankings entirely.

Can a brand pay to improve its score?
No. Rankings are set by test results alone. Retail commissions are only earned after you choose to buy, and they never change a score.
Why do rankings change from month to month?
We re-test top products every 90 days and fold in verified buyer feedback. Durability failures and firmware or model revisions move products up or down.
Where do products go after testing?
Working units are donated to local community organizations. Failed units are recycled — and photographed for the review first.
